The main street of Castletownshend is lined with large homes from the 18th century, and runs down a sloped hill leading to Townsend Castle and Castle Haven Harbour . Nearby is Church of St Barrahane, built in 1826 and is noted for its Stained Glass.
The village grew around Knockdrum Stone Fort, just half a mile outside of the town. It was built in the 1600s by the Townsend family and it is now a comfortable and welcoming hotel, offering stunning views out over the harbour of Castlehaven.
In the village there are a couple of pubs and restaurants for you to relax, unwind and sample the local fayre. Mary Anns Pub and Restaurant even has an art gallery upstairs, from which they sell the work of local artists.
