Heir Island feels like a retreat. It is an unspoiled haven for nature, with many caves and creeks for you to explore by sea kayak. The island cottages date back to the 1920s and any new properties have been built in the same style, making Heir Island feel like you’ve stepped back in time, to a much simpler time.

One of seven inhabited West Cork islands, the island has a wildlife preserve and several beaches; the most noted of these is the Sandy Beach or Trá Bán. Just a short 5 minute ferry ride from Cunnamore, Heir Island is a peaceful and tranquil haven for nature lovers.

With B&Bs, holiday rentals, an art gallery, a sailing school and outdoor activities camp, a holistic therapy centre, one permanent restaurant and one pop-up restaurant which is located in the Sailing School, for a small island, Heir Island has a lot to offer. There is also a famous cookery school on the island, attracting keen amateur chefs from all over and ensuring that you won’t go hungry. Fresh bread is also made at the Firehouse Bakery where baking courses are held. The island is also home to a handful of artists, and their work is on show in the galleries on the island.
